Rediscovering Salford's programme highlights the area's green spaces, many of them unnoticed or unappreciated. Art is the vehicle for drawing the public's attention.
Therefore, we looked for a universally accessible form of art on which to base our brand designs. Our inspiration was Henri Matisse.
In his final years, during the 1940s, Matisse used bold, colourful cut-out shapes as his medium, maximising the effectiveness and impact of simple forms.
Adopting and applying Matisse’s concept, we designed coloured leaf forms to work as a strong visual theme running throughout the festival as immediately recognisable promotional devices.
This gave Rediscovering Salford its distinctive visual identity, reflecting its two main components, art and green spaces.
